Electrophysiological study and catheter ablation for SVT

Hi there, ive been struggling with PSVT since 2018,ive had palpatations from a young age. On 10th March i had the above procedure, yet halfway through, they were unable to get my heart into the SVT rhythm which was needed to ablate the misfiring electrical cells as anyone elsand the procedure was abandoned. This condition i have is very dibilitating, the arrithmia meds i take have bad side effects and i was hoping after having this procedure i could come down off the meds. Im a bit disapointed, has anyone else experienced this as im not sure what to do now

I can imagine how disappointed you must feel cavalier2. Had my ablation on Monday where they struggled for a long time to trigger my svt. The consultant even warned me that they might not be able to ablate. They carried on trying and luckily managed to get a very short episode which they followed up on. They’re not sure of success though as they couldn’t bring about the svt after ablation.

Perhaps ask your cardiologist if they would be able to try another EP study and ablation.

How often do your episodes occur btw? Mine would happen sporadically, sometimes 3-4 times per month (each would be hours, and occasionally whilst sleeping, at a time), and sometimes once every month. Since I was diagnosed with svt (2017) and after discussing with my doctor, I have been taking my medication as pill in the pocket rather than daily, which has helped me hugely.

Definitely get in touch with your cardiology dept and try to push for another attempt at ablation.

Hope it all goes well and keep us updated.

Sharon
