Hi all,
I've joined to see if anyone can help with some advice. My dad is 79 and a few months ago started having seizures. He was told that they were happening because his heart was stopping and a pacemaker was fitted. He hasn't had a seizure since but continues to feel very light-headed and dizzy at times. Today he had what my mum thought was a stroke - he lost consciousness, couldn't speak properly, couldn't grip her hand, and wet himself. He was taken to hospital and, after a few hours, has been discharged.
The dr he saw said it's not a stroke but is his heart still and that he needs an Echo (he's been on the waiting list since November) and that he shouldn't be having these symptoms still with the pacemaker. However he saw someone a few weeks back who said the pacemaker is working well.
I feel at a loss to know what's going on. It's not helped by covid as his local hospital won't allow anyone to go with him when he's been taken in (today is the third time going in by ambulance in 3 months) and he's discharged each time without anyone speaking to my mum. He's quite confused at times and doesn't seem able to push for them to tell him what's happening.
The only thing he's been diagnosed with as far as I can tell is an abnormal heart rhythm but would that he causing these symptoms and why wouldn't the pacemaker be sorting it?
Any thoughts would be welcome! Thank you.
