My wife has had AF for two years she is on the usual medication and she can go 2 to 3 days AF free but when her AF reverts to normal rhythm she just collapses we were in a cafe this morning when she went into AF we left the cafe and outside she just collapsed l was supporting her and we both ended up on the floor after kind people fetched a chair and picked us up 10 minutes later she was fine apart from a small bump l think l took most of her weight does anyone with AF experience this oh by the way we are 81 and 84 respectively so l suppose we shouldn’t grumble.

I think you need to talk to your GP about this. I have experience really dreadful AFib episodes but never collapsed. I am not a medic but it does not sound normal for Afib.

Thanks for your reply she has a virtual appointment with cardiologist on 24 March so hopefully we will get some answers . Take care.

Hello Becbux, I too have AF but haven’t experienced this. It must be very distressing for both of you. There is a forum on Health Unlocked dedicated to AF so it might be worth re-posting your question there, as the forum has a lot of members well versed in the ways of AF! It’s called the AF Association if you search for it. I’m sorry, I attempted to send a link but it doesn’t seem to work - I’m not too good with technology! I do hope the cardiologist is able to help in March.

Hi Threecats, thanks for your reply, my wife’s resting pulse when out of AF is in the 50 s l wonder at times whether the drop from AF to resting is so great that she gets the reaction l mention , l am not putting too much hope with the cardiologist these virtual phone talks can’t beat face to face , thanks again , Take care.

I completely agree with you, Becbux. My AF was diagnosed over the phone in a 10 minute consultation following a couple of trips to A&E last year. Not terribly satisfactory at all but seems to be the way of it these days. I’m not sure where your wife is with medication etc but a resting rate in the 50s does seem quite low to me (although, of course I’m not medically qualified) It also sounds as if her AF isn’t being well controlled if she’s having episodes every couple of days. I do wonder if it’s possible to arrange a private consultation with an electrophysiologist , particularly one who specialises in AF and syncope, just to get things moving?

The electrophysiologist she is under is the one or one of her team she is waiting to speak to in March , l offered to pay £225 for an appointment to see her at the Spire hospital pay when you book but they would not guarantee it would be face to face, l insisted that before l paid l want to be assured it’s face to face, otherwise l might just as well wait till the March appointment, l am still waiting for their reply. The medication she is on Flecainide, Apixaban, Bisoprolol etc the Flecainide is a low does which she has not long started so they are watching that.l think that’s it sign of the times lm afraid . Take care.

Hi there, I think it’s called reversion pause, I get it when I revert back to nsr from afib, it’s a horrible feeling, luckily for me I have either been lying or sitting down when it has happened, best to check it out though.

Hi I asked the very same question a few days ago and you responded but I wasn`t able to reply at that time but I have the same thing when going from AF to Sinus Mode and it is very frightening. I have had 2 bouts of fainting, finished up on the kitchen floor the first time and was sat down the second time so no harm done but it really isn`t a pleasant experience. Sadly the Doctors don`t seem to care about this happening, seems to be the norm in their eyes. In fact they aren`t bothered about AF at all. I have had AF for 7 years but only recently have the symptoms changed to dizziness and these strange sensation of feeling faint and vision disturbance like a `white out` and fuzziness. I am prescribed Metoprolol (Beta Blocker) and Apixaban (Anti Coagulant) but that`s all. I have been referred for a Holter Monitor Test by my GP but in the meantime I purchased a small ECG machine which registers my heartbeat and I can print out a tracing which I have done and sent to my GP for her to look at and hopefully offer some help. Please tell your Wife that I can empathise with her but can`t offer much in the way of treatment advice as I`m in the same boat.

Hi Lurchergirl, l can only visualise what you are going through and l am so sorry ,as you say these cardiologists doesn’t seem to bother my wife has a virtual appointment in March what they can see or do over the phone beats me and trying to see one is like trying to see the Queen , My wife has just been put on Flecainide low dose also Apixaban and Bisoprolol . I can’t offer much comfort but l hope things improve for you. Take care.
