Hello and welcome to the forum!
I think the best test for you would be an exercise ECG. A friend had an insignificant resting ECG. Yet two minutes in on an exercise one they stopped it. Shortly after he was in Papworth.
I don't know your diet but I encountered someone who had blocked arteries at 30 through eating fried chicken every (working) lunchtime.
Let us know how it goes...
Hi helpmexo, sorry to hear you aren't feeling great. Well done on the weight loss so far. Have you had a Covid test to rule that out as the cause of the breathlessness and pains?
Could be anxiety, worrying about your symptoms or what they could be can make it worse or mimic heart problems.
hi there, please insist on getting more tests done, do not be fobbed off you know your body better than anyone! heart disease can happen at any age but caught early can be treated with meds etc, im 52 I have a family history of heart disease, a couple of years ago I asked my doctor to be sent for tests to get my heart checked however because I had, no red flags eg I was slim very active, low bmi, low cholesterol I was told I didn't need any, anyway fast forward 2 years I had a HA 5 months ago where I arrested twice, I now have a stent in place and moderate heart damage and on a cocktail of meds for the rest of my life! I'm grateful to be here so please listen to your body and insist on further investigation if your doctor won't get a second opinion, hopefully your fine but if there is something you can get this sorted without having to go through the trauma of a H A, hope this helps, please let us know how you get on x
Hello helpmexo I have a 20 + yr old son of a similar weight to you. Congratulations on your recent weight loss.
My son is trying low carb, high protein eating to combat pre diabetes. In 3 weeks , he has lost 10 kg. Increased breathlessness spurred him into trying to be more aware of what he ate and when.
He has anxiety and he tends to find comfort in food?
He was also diagnosed with severe sleep apnea a few years ago: due mostly to his weight and large neck circumstance.
Sleep apnea can put a strain on your heart too?
Have you considered being tested for this? Breathlessness is very frightening isn’t it?
Wishing you all the best on your health journey.
Best wishes
I had breathing problems on Ramipril. I felt as though I couldn’t take in enough air. It’s been changed to Amlodipine and I’m fine with it. I’ve also been taken off Lanzoprazole after 20 years as they think it may be one of the causes (along with Ramipril) for my sodium levels dropping dramatically.Ask for your meds to be reviewed and write down your symptoms so that you are clear about exactly what’s worrying you.
Good luck
First, be assured my comments may appear to be harsh but are well intentioned. At 25 stone you are likely to be obese or even morbidly obese. Your body is probably unnecessarily dragging around the equivalent of at least two sacks of potatoes more than it should and your heart is likely complaining. I believe you have described symptoms of angina, which is a heart under strain. So you need to steadily lose weight. If I were you I would be aiming for at least 8 stone, perhaps more. That will help your heart, as well as any breathing difficulties, and likely your blood pressure too. Other things you could do is to exercise more frequently, and cut down on alcohol if you drink, and certainly stop smoking if you do that. You will find you have more energy, and you look and feel better. But if you don't do those things, with your current health issues and more probably on the way, you might be dead by the time you would have achieved 40. It might be hard work, but it is worth it. But I am I am surprised your GP didn't tell you this.
Firstly, well done on your weight loss, keep it going.I first had angina pain in 2016, all initial tests didn't show any problems but the stress test gave them what was needed.
I had just started the 3rd phase and was on my last leg, I said I needed to stop, the nurse said something like, that's okay we have got what we need. I knew that something had shown up
I ended up having an angiogram followed by a bypass.
last October the angina returned, ECG and blood tests all okay. Later that week I had an angiogram that showed I needed 2 stents but the artery needed to be drilled first.
I would certainly insist that the GP refer you to cardiologist with a view to having an angiogram that will show you what is going on inside your ticker!!
