Hi, I have had pericarditis on and off, mainly on now since 2006. Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium, a sac around the heart. Most people who develop the condition make a complete recovery unless like myself and many others it is caused by an underlying autoimmune/autoinflammatory disease. Treatment is mainly with colchicine or other anti inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Key to recovery is rest but it can take a couple of months. Unfortunately you can't really put a time frame on it. Rest, rest and rest more.
