I was fitted with a pacemaker about 10 weeks ago. Ever since it's been fitted my pulse is unpredictable. My heart rate changes too. I've been back to the hospital nearly every week but they can't find anything wrong. The ECG the paramedics do shows you're is a problem. The Cardiologist doesn't seem to be worried.

The thing is this last time for the first time a did have a fall. Luckily my grandson was with me but I live on my own. I'm concerned about what if it happens when alone or worse I faint. No one can get in.

I was also told I was too young to have a pacemaker fitted. The reason they did the operation was because my heart rate was dangerously low. They were also surprised I hadn't fainted or had a fall.

My question is what help can I get to help stop me being so paranoid ?

Dear Cyprus66

Now lets stop all this { what you think is } paranoid feelings. What you are feeling are a genuine feelings that you know is not right for your body and as far as you can tell only happened just after the pacemaker was fitted.

That to me, remember I’m not medically trained, is someone thinking out an answer to a problem.

You operation was only ten weeks ago and all though you are well on the way to being well ,it still is not long for the nerves to knit.

When you were with the paramedics/ ambulance you my have been suffering from anxiety that showed on there ECG .

Anxiety is a powerful feeling that can manifest its self in many ways and should never be underestimated.

I am sorry that you are suffering so, but please contact your heart nurse who I hope can help you more.

You are in my thoughts and will never be alone

You are not being paranoid. You have had a major disruption to your body, and it will take a few weeks to settle down. Are you certain your pulse is changing? I kept thinking that after I had my pacemaker fitted, but the nurse said it was fine. Now I have a smart watch, I can see that it is steady. It may be that you are aware of the correcting influence of the device (but that is just a guess).

About the falling issue, you can get alarm buttons to wear so that you can summon help. There are various different types depending on your needs.

When I first got my pacemaker, I was really worried because I thought that my heart rate was much faster than it should have been. It was explained to me that before my pacemaker, I was used to having low heart rate, but afterwards, when beating at normal rate, it felt too fast. It does take several months for your body to adapt to the pacemaker, so there is no need to worry. Your cardiologist says everything is OK, and I would listen to what he/she has to say.

Take care of your self, and enjoy the new lease of life your pacemaker will give you.
