I’m waiting for an echo scan and 24hr monitor as I’ve been having bouts of light headedness and my GP heard a heart murmur. The last scan was 4 years ago. I also have mild FMD in both Carotid arteries for which I was advised to take 75mg of aspirin a day. I had bad GI side effects and haven’t been taking any blood thinners. Is the leaking valve something I should also take blood thinners for?

I've had a mild/moderate leaking mitral valve for at least 10 years and I don't take any blood thinners. I do think regular echocardiograms are necessary - mine are supposed to be annual, but that has gone a bit haywire recently.(I take bisoprolol plus felodipine for ectopics and hypertension.)
I have moderate mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, I am on Dagabatran blood thinners and when I had a cardioversion to sort my AF (still working ) I asked if I could stop the blood thinners, my heart specialist was having none of it, I am "on them for life" she tells me. She explained that regurgitation creates "eddies" that cause the blood to slow and thicken.
