Fasting April 2022

Hello,

Is it too soon to fast this year for the month of April? A year since heart attack & triple bypass with 2 meds need to be taken twice a day. Rules mean only an 8hour window to consume anything including meds (8pm-4am). If not ok, then that is fine.

Dear DonMega

Interesting question and I presume that the fasting is religious based.

I would contact your heart team or Drs as there must be thousands in your position.

It shows how ignorant I can be sometimes , as it never crossed my mind how you would cope with this , even though I have extensively traveled in many countries that abide by this teaching.

Would not your religious leader be able to answer you?

I would for one be extremely interested on the outcomes to your question.

Take care

It's called Fast 800. Not religiously based. Not only fasting but low calories.

Do beg my pardon, read your post wrong, fasting for weight loss has been used for years, so has putting less volume of food into your body,

good luck with it all

I eat only in an eight hour window, from 1.00pm to 9.00pm. I started this two or three months after a heart bypass and I've carried on for over three years now. Fasting/restricted hours eating doesn't work for everyone but it certainly works for me, I dropped a couple of stone and I've kept the weight off without any conscious effort. More importantly it's reversed my slow drift towards becoming pre-diabetic/insulin resistant, with my HbA1c blood tests now well down in the safe zone.

However, I don't include medication (nor water) in this plan. I'll take medication (and drink water) at any time.

Good luck!

I wish I could stick to it, tried 2 meals a day, one specialist recommended it, my cardiologist said 1 meal a day would be better. Just felt uncomfortable taking my meds on empty stomach, I do take quite a few a day. Maybe will try again. All the best. Moni

Heart Matters had an article on fasting:

Personally I would run it past your GP/cardiologist. One of my medications is eight hourly and I would have issues going for an eight hour window to take it.

Not too soon, in my opinion, as long as you are consuming your daily caloric requirement. Fasting in this context is just really not snacking and for extra benefit, if you are insulin resistant, eliminating one meal. If you would like to take your medicine in the morning than I would suggest taking it with a small amount of something full fat, like yogurt or cheese, these fats will not raise your blood sugar too much , if at all. Also I think a lot of meds. are fat soluble, but don't know about heart meds. I never eat before noon and all is well with me.

Can't see why it would be a problem but you should ask GP/consultant. I do that anyway as I don't feel hungry. I usually eat breakfast and late lunch (dinner) and rarely eat after about 3pm and rarely'snack'. Not for any dietary or religious reasons.

Apologies, this is for religious reasons. Absolutely no consumption of anything from 4am to 8pm (no water, no food OR meds)...that is the quandary whether too soon to put body through that...I have an appointment with Docs this Wednesday and will raise also.

Any compassionate deity(ies) would want you to be safe and healthy. If you risk harm, say through gut damage due to tablets, or dehydration because your body isn't regulating normally, or medications are designed to be taken at various intervals, then I would choose what's needed to optimise your health so that you are in a fit state to participate in other observances. I'm sure your life is precious and clearly you are respectful, it's just that you also have a need to be responsible.

Not what you're looking for?
