Hello all. I have had a pacemaker fitted! This came out of no where, I was at a friends house and was not feeling too clever, I guess a bit tired and run down. I am waiting for aorta valve replacement. All of a sudden I had a rush of blood to my head and cold sweats, I blacked out for a few seconds. When I came too I could see but not hear any sounds for a few seconds. I decided I needed to leave so my husband and I left. We got home and I rang 999 and was asked if I could make my way to A&E as there was a long wait for an ambulance. This we did and checked in at reception. The wait was long, my husband had to leave as per covid rules. After some time I was triaged and sent back to waiting. Eventually after several hours I was moved to MDU where bloods were taken and an ECG. After 12 hours sitting through the night I was seen by a cardiac nurse. She told me the blood tests are fine but my ECG was showing concern. They had looked at my previous results when I wore a 24hr holster and this was showing extra heat beats. She told me I needed a pacemaker fitted. I thought I was going to be discharged! I was put on a bed in the ED while a bed was found for me on the Cardiology ward.
On the ward I was able to get some sleep, hooked up to a heart monitor. I was seen later that day by the specialist who said they will go a head with the operation. I was surprised how quick it all happened and under a local too. After the op which was better then I thought I was able to see the x-ray and how it all was put together.
I must say the are and support I got was great. Yes the wait was long but it was obvious they were very busy. At home now resting and been told the aorta valve op will have to wait six months giving my pacemaker time to work and the body to recover. Realistically it could be a year if not more. As I have the pacemaker I cal already feel the difference no palpitations. I'm not better as my aortic valve is broken and needs replacing. At least I now have a device to keep my electrical impulses stable. Fingers crossed.
