Hello,

I experience postprandial angina.

Try eating little and often, rather than a large meal in one go.

I would also tell your GP and Cardiologist about this symptom too.

Thanks. But with things as they are its hard to get in touch with anyone, waiting to go for a CT scan and stress test, could be waiting months.

I know it's is so difficult at the moment to get hold of a GP or Cardiologist. I have lived with a rare type angina for nearly 10 years. I can email my Cardiologist or GP if I need to.

Have you been given any medication for your angina?GTN spray?

I suggest you keep a diary of your symptoms, include breathlessness, pressure or tight feeling in your chest, upper backache, stomach ache, lightheartedness, feeling sick as well as chest pain.

Whether you get chest pain at rest.

If you experience any change in the frequency, intensity or severity of your symptoms especially if they occur at rest, I suggest you call 111 for further advice.

Perhaps give the BHF helpline call and speak to one of the cardiac nurses too?

Medication, isosorbide mononitrate 25mg statins 10mgs aspirin 75mg, so I must be high risk. I go for a walk every day for 5days walking up some slopes to strengthen my heart haven't used my gtn spray yet just walk through the ache in my chest I get a little breathless but when on flat surface it goes off.

Exercise is really important. I walk my dog everyday.

You have been prescribed the usual treatment for angina.

The isosorbide mononitrate relaxes your blood vessels, the statins help reduce inflammation of the inner lining of your blood vessels, stabilising any areas of plaque. The aspirin helps to keep your blood flowing evenly preventing clots forming.

The BHF has some information on their website, which you might find helpful.

I suggest don't be shy of using your GTN spray.

Before you use it, give it a blast to get rid of any stale spray. Sit down the first time you use it.

The GTN can drop your blood pressure. It can feel like you've been walloped in the head too.

These symptoms wear off with use.

You can use it before you exercise. Perhaps try using it when you get chest pain after eating.

I hope your wait for tests isn't too long.

Just got a text from gp suggesting that I book an appointment for a ecg regarding palpitations and missed pulse beats had one about 3 months ago is it worthwhile going for another one you would think he could have booked one for me.

I would take up the offer of an ECG.Perhaps discuss with your GP having a 24 hour ECG, Holter test?

This longer ECG is more likely to pick up any heart rhythm problems.

Take a note if it’s worse after a high carb meal, pizza and the like. Carbs can rush a lot of sugars round the system. Try a meal of vegetables and smallish amount of meat low/ni carbs see if it’s better

Thanks, but I need to gain weight really, because I have prostate cancer but its under control, I have no testosterone this is what has caused my cardio problems oncologist said this would probably happen. Can't win.

Blessings to you. Small meals not too heavy on carb is the way. Keep us posted , it’s snack time :)

I have to be careful around meals and often sit still for a while (eg reading a book) after I've eaten. In my simplistic way of looking at these things I imagine there's an increased load on the heart after eating, especially a heavy meal with eg meat, as more oxygenated blood is needed to begin the digestive process.
