Hi everyone, I have just had a video appointment with an endocrinologist, which I was very anxious about, but have been told my cholesterol is way to high and I can’t take statins because of a liver problem that has just come about, I don’t drink alcohol at all and haven’t for 20 years, and then not a lot before that so they don’t know why it’s happened, I was on 80mg of statins a day for about ten years .

Makes you wonder, any way I’ve been put on pralvent a new sept 1 Cholesterol injection, self administered every two weeks, has any one been given the same or even heard about it, the drug is supposed to really help people with heart disease

Sounds like the liver problem has been caused by the statins. That’s why they test liver function regularly whilst on statins. You need to have quite high cholesterol to be put on Praluent and obviously your consultant has made a clinical decision for you to need it. Do you have FH or elevated lipoprotein (a)? These are genetic conditions that can raise cholesterol. I wouldn’t get anxious as you’re under the right care and being given the correct meds. Praluent isn’t that new, and has a proven record of safety.
