Hi everyone could someone give any information if I should be concerned with tightness in my chest. In March this year I under went out heart surgery. I'm fine but I am back at work and am under a lot of pressure with work load, and because of the pressure I'm under my chest is becoming tight, should I be concerned or will this be a new normal for me?

Hello :-)

I suffer with anxiety and I know my chest gets tight when I am anxious

However since my Bypass I always check in and talk to my Doctor because I have realised there is a thin line between how your heart feels and anxiety

As long as she confirms it is anxiety I know what I am dealing with

It does sound like anxiety but I would just check with your Doctor to make sure :-) x

Dear Douglas

Is it worth the risk of letting work put you under too much pressure.

I would get some therapy to help me remove that pressure.

Meditation s a good extra option as is gentle yoga.

A half hour walk each day would also be a good plan

Yes of course you should get a doctor to check you out.

Let’s hope you find a happy way forward

Get checked out and talk to your manager about reducing the pressure at work.

I would take a triple pronged approach. Speak with your cardiologist and if they say it isnt your heart playing up then see your GP re anxiety support and speak with your work manager. Not easy i know but health is crucial to sustain you. We are the authors of how we approach this so please write a good script to follow. Best wishes.

^^This is excellent advice. I have struggled with stress-induced pain, even sending me to the hospital where all checked out normal. I'm starting to be able to distinguish stress-induced pain vs "real" heart pain; and also trying to find a pressure-relieve valve.

Hi Douglas,Definitely see your doctor and get checked out asap. You cannot ignore your symptoms.

It could be stress because of your job, which is not good, especially long term, think about what you really want in life, and, is it this stressful job or a more calmer life.

Get an ecg for starters, then the usual tests and maybe a change or increase in meds may help.

I don't know how bad the chest pains and tightness are, could it be angina?, I have that, maybe you need a gtn spray.

Good luck with finding out what it is 🤔👍

Hi Douglas, I am in exactly the same position. Having had a CABG last year and other issues since I am currently on stress leave from work (changed jobs 4 months ago and my new job is awful). I too have been having chest pains and was worried about it. Talked to my gp who has told me that if I have any prolonged pain to just get myself to the hospital. I'm currently looking at therapy and for a new job, lifes not worth staying at a crappy stressful job if you can find another one. Best of luck mate.
