Your going to think what I say strange, but it is the truth. I love having them. You go in with a crazy heart rate, have your cardioversion and wake to calm. It takes just a matter of minutes and you will have a general anaesthetic so will know nothing about it. It's the most wonderful feeling afterwards and I'm so grateful to the people who have put me back in normal rhythm. There is absolutely nothing to worry about and there's no pain or discomfort involved whatsoever.

Take it easy and allow your heart to build up strength beating correctly afterwards, so no doing anything too energetic for a week or two.

Hello. It’s natural and normal to be worried about something like this and your concerns won’t go away entirely until it’s over, no matter how many people tell you about their experience of cardioversions. My husband had one as he went into AF a few days after open heart surgery. He said afterwards the thinking about it beforehand was much, much worse than actually having it done. The hospital staff really do look after you and they’re used to patients being really, really worried. It’s easy for me to say and extremely hard to do, but please don’t worry too much.

Hi, I've only had one ...a few weeks ago...but having another one in 3 weeks as it didn't last unfortunately. That doesn't happen for everyone. I've been in AF a very very long time and it wasn't expected to work magic.It really is quite a straightforward procedure. The thought of it is probably the worst part.

You go in, settle down, have an ECG, you are then sedated fully but lightly and briefly and you don't feel a thing. And because you're only "under" a short time waking up from the anaesthetic is quick and easy so you'll be on your way home before you know it.

You do need to take it easy though even if you feel well. Wishing you well 🌸

I've described it as going into hospital, having some tests, they try to scare you with possible but very rare side effects, you have a quick sleep, they then do more tests, give you something to eat and send you home.

Oh, and they did the cardioversion when you had that quick sleep!

Hi, had mine in November and there is nothing to worry about. You will go thro all the normal pre op checks but the process is very quick and simple. Although you have an anaesthetic you're not out very long. The worst part is that you might have a burn where the paddles are placed, it is like sunburn so put some aftersun or body lotion at night, good luck but you will feel better afterwards

Had one August 2020 and like you I was concerned but it was all ok. Where the paddles had been I did have burns but as previously said they are like sun burn and you just need to put some cream on but I had been warned this could happen. Really there is nothing to be concerned about and the staff were excellent. Good luck.

Hello try not to worry too much I had my second one 6 weeks ago first one was 2015 unfortunately this one has not lasted but that is not to say yours will not as Jean says it is a wonderful feeling when your heart rate is back in rhythm and if like me the first thing you will ask is has it worked!! At my hospital when giving you the anaesthetic they say Gin and Tonic on its way I don't drink but it is a nice thought if you like Gin
