Many of us on this website have one thing in common and that is stress. In the past year from having ok blood pressure to learning my blood pressure has sky rocketed I am not surprised. Various changes throughout the year (my husband had sepsis and broke his hip and my sister dying slowly of a ghastly disease ) has contributed to the rise in blood pressure . No it wasn’t weight or diet or lack of exercise. The rest of my blood results were fine. So in a way the results have taught me to to change my whole way of approaching life. From being near neurotic / obsessive to not really caring if things go wrong. I am going to change my way of living and take a much calmer view. I hope therefore that my blood pressure level will be acceptable …but I am not going to worry about I!

Stress
Hi polly well said we know blood pressure for the most part is genetic but the stresses in life also play there part on our sympathetic systems hopefully for you once life starts to become normal or as normalas it can be your BP starts to become under control- I’ve seen over the years many patients come out of the doctors room straight to the receptionists and tell us there woes because basically they had been given a prescription told to book in with the nurse for further checks nine times out of 10 not a lot of conversation to go with it and sometimes people just need some answers in further detail which would alleviate a lot of worry I know time is limited in general practice but what our surgery started to do was having classes at the surgery about different diseases that patients could get together and discuss there problems usually with a GP present or the nurse practitioner this was proving to be very popular unfortunately Covid struck and the classes are sadly not back on the agenda in the meantime polly hope you all feel better soon take care x
Thank you and what a great idea. I don’t know if I actually inherited the physical makeup from my parents which resulted in my bypass but I certainly inherited my fathers’s temperament which could be quite heated some times. He had very high blood pressure . I really believe stress plays a major part in heart disease though .
