Shingles

I know that this has nothing to do with the heart but I'm struggling to find help from other sources.

I have recently had shingles diagnosed and to say its painful is an understatement. My GP has given me medication which is slowly helping but I wondered whether you lovely people had anything that works for you. I am only allowed paracetamol because of my heart meds.

Any tips would be a blessing.

My husband has shingles many years ago and I bought him a tens machine which helped. They are really cheap now, but I would have paid anything at the time! As long as you don't have a pacemaker it's worth a try.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you Sewnkit. Unfortunately I have a pacemaker. Seems like I'm falling to bits!

O no! I'm so sorry, the pain can be horrific. Has your doctor offered any thing else in the way of pain killers?

No. I can't take much because of heart mess. The pharmacist has given me anti histamine.

Hi, are you sure of the diagnosis? I was told it was Shingles then it progressed into Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and I received inappropriate treatment. I took paracetamol, Predisilone steroids, antihistamine and used steroid creams, also bought Chicken Pox spray which helped a bit. Good luck and a big hug, it’s a miserable time for you.

The first Doctor mis diagnosed it as an insect bite but then it got worse so I went back.. The second doctor wasn't sure so took pictures and showed it to another Doctor who diagnosed Shingles. The medication is making me very sleepy 😴 with vivid dreams and I'm unsteady on my feet. Ill have a look at the Stanley Johnson Syndrome on Google. Thank you.

I had problems and used a strong “ tea tree” ointment which I bought from the pharmacy made by Thursday Plantation. It was really for acne and pimples but was the best help for me. Do not use near the eye though, it is serious if you have shingles on your face...then need Doctor immediately.Good luck.

Thank you Meme. They haven't "burst" yet so I'm loathe to use anything on them in case they get infected but tea tree sounds gentle.

Believe me it won’t hurt you. I read about it in an old medical book when in search of a remedy. I applied it every 2-3 hours whilst in the early stages. It stopped the spread and was brilliant for me.
