COVID Advice please

My company wants us to be in the office 3times a week But My spouse is about to go in for a Bypass surgery. During his recovery is it safe for me to travel to work? I want to ask my company to allow me to continue to work from home but I do not want to be unreasonable.

Any advice will be much appreciated

Hello :-)

Before I was going in for my Bypass surgery my Son who works in a care home asked for time of to self isolate and they agreed I think by law they had to

When I came out he went back to work but of course he was careful around me and the job he does he could not do from home but as you can work from home I think it is more than a reasonable request and would ask them

Let us know how you get on :-) x

In that case I would speak to your GP or consultant, seems like a reasonable request though if you have been working from home for a period of time.

Definitely ask your employer (I really hope you get a better outcome then i did!)

My fiancé had his bypass end of January 2020 (just as Covid hit the U.K.)

I work in a hospital and travelling to work involves two buses so was very worried about contracting Covid especially as my fiancé was told to shield as he has other health issues and was still recovering from bypass.

As the pandemic worsened I asked if I could work from home at least part of the week (my role could be done from home) this was refused and I was then told I was being relocated to a Covid ward!

The “options” i was offered were to be on unpaid leave or it was suggested i consider moving out of home to protect him....

I think I was “unlucky” that all this occurred at the beginning of the pandemic and hope now that employers have more sympathy especially as you’ve been working from home already. Good luck
