Since I am now 12 months past heart attack and 4 stents I think it's time to come of dual antiplatlet. In my case clopidogral. I seem to have come to look upon it as a security blanket and am worried about stopping it.!! Where as I should be celebrating. Anyone else felt like this.

12 months post heart attack.
I was on Ticagrelor and couldn't wait to get off it, in fact i stopped it a couple of weeks early to save ordering another lot 😀
Should add that it was purely due to the bruising, nothing else.
Hi cakesandbakes. Try and look at it as a confirmation that you have reached your one year anniversary. Like Gaz I couldn't wait to come off it and stop experiencing those awe inspiring bruises - never had bruises like that in my life! With best wishes for your future journey x
Must admit we are concerned as hubby came off it after a year and went on to have another ha 20 months later, then needed another angiogram because of breathlessness 7 months later and was found to have another blockage needing stenting (6 stents in total now we think) . So medication now extended until April next year. His cardiologist put long term on his discharge notes but Cardiologist is now off on long term sick, uncertain if will return, so cardio team are trying to find out what he meant by long term, as usually puts twelve months.
Yes. And I’m so I’m glad you’ve brought the subject up.
I mentioned this only recently on here, I have 2 weeks of pills left from a Ticagrelor course as they are now stopped and I will not be getting anymore, I have been on them 4 years and like you instead of being happy about it I am very concerned, irrespective of the bruising the combination of them and aspirin I believe has prevented most probably a heart attack in this time. After having one stent done 4 years back I saw online an article from NICE, the medical authority that said after a heart attack people should have Ticagrelor extended beyond the first 12 months for a further 3 years and that’s what I have had but I notice not many people seem to be aware of what NICE recommended and most doctors only recommend the 12 months, the fact that NICE is prepared for the cost of this only makes me more certain that it was right. One of the reasons given for the extra time on them is that I’m diabetic but I will still be diabetic when these stop. The problem also arises on what to eat as a diabetic I try cutting out carbs which makes cheese and other foods more essential but when I saw Cardiac Rehab they said I should have a matchbox size piece of cheese only and the opposite of what to do for a diabetic. Certainly no longer having this drug is going to make me feel very unsafe..
Rosiemycat thankyou for reply. I am in a similar boat to you regarding food. I was advised by cardiology the usual low fat diet. Due to rapid Wgt loss after heart attack and stents a dietician that I was referred to ,not face to face of course told me to eat cheese cream anything with fat to gain wgt! Up the ladder and down the snake .
No, I couldn’t wait to come off them. I was black and blue with bruises and had never had so many “accidents” resulting in spectacular colours. It’s my understanding that the blood thinners are to stop the bodies natural response to the stent (a foreign object) to form clots and block it. After a year the stent is embedded and that risk is gone.
