Hi, I replied on your other post, and would reiterate my response.

I don't know your sons circumstances, but, what I can say is my experience of having the Tissue valve. I'm congenital, I never had the luxury of a 'normal' life in the eyes of other people, hospitals and doctors weren't uncommon for me. We'd known for years that surgery was coming, just a case of when. I had time to choose carefully the type of valve I wanted and went for the Tissue. At 33 the Cardiologist decided it was time.

The Tissue valve, gave me opportunities to do things I could only dream of, more importantly, a life away from hospitals, doctors other than an annual check-up. I lived a 'normal life'. Money can't buy you that.

As I said in the other post, I did so in the knowledge, I'd have go through it again, and have no regrets whatsoever. That's something he needs to realise with the Tissue.

If you read my profile, don't be put off by my later challenges, that had nothing to do with valve choice.

Good luck.

So glad to hear the tissue valve gave you a normal life my son was born with aortic stenosis , now severe but it has been a big thing for him just wanting to feel like everyone else , I'm hoping this operation does this for him I've watched him grow for 30 years and to see him do things and feel more carefree would be amazing thank you for giving me hope

I had a valve replacement 4 years ago at the age of 20. Also congenital heart defect so second surgery. I was not given a choice in valve type and was given a tissue. However, this is partly because I am a female of child baring age and anti-coaguation during pregnancy carries a heavy risk and have number of comorbidities that are easier to intervene when not on anti-coagulation. 4 years on I was also the pulmonary valve looks to be doing well with just a mild leak. Consensus at my last appointment was that actually timing of next surgery maybe dictated to more by my failing tricuspid valve than the life of the pulmonary replacement.

Get reviewed once every 2 years since replacement.

Thank you for replying it gives me more confidence to see that other young people have had a tissue valve as he won't have the metal one , hope the best for you 🙂
