I’ve been on 2 colchicine a day since I was in hospital with pericarditis and an effusion December last year . My cardiologist told me to take just one a day a few weeks ago then stop it completely from tomorrow , I have to have a crp blood test anytime after august 20th and an echo scan august 31st to check for any fluid returning . How did others get on after stopping colchicine after taking it for so long ?

I took it for 4 months for pericarditis, and then stopped. I did not notice any difference

Hi there I wasn’t taking it for that long, my pericarditis went on for about 5 months and I had to increase the colchicine to two as there wasn’t much improvement - the increased dosage certainly helped and I had no problems or side effects coming off of it. You could always take the one for a little longer to readjust your body to the reduced dose before you stop completely. Good luck

I took it for 6 months and stopped recently. No change noticed, maybe my belly is less bloated :)Your therapy is over, feel great, embrace normality, trust your body can deal with anything, be positive and move on, look forward to beautiful things and leave the rest behind. That is what I am doing now :)

Stay well!

Thanks for your reply , I do hope my pericarditis is cured , I was told at a recent hospital visit that I have a small effusion that they will keep a check on , I have a pacemaker and I’m still having cardiac problems so I’m not back to normal yet , I think I’ll have to accept a new normal as I can’t do everything I used to before having pericarditis . Good to know you are doing well x

I was on colchicine twice daily for 10 weeks for pericarditis. It was then stopped and I didn't notice any side effects. My CRP was checked about 6 weeks after and was back at a normal level. Hope all goes well.
