Colchicine is mainly prescribed for gout and also for pericarditis. You might get a better response about side effects on the HU Arthritis forum.

Yes ,I take it for gout,

I had AVR ,5 years ago , and as I'm on warfarin for life, it's all I can take.

I only take it during a gout attack,

makes me feel sick as a dog! Sorts out the gout though.

Hi yes. I take one colchicine per day for pericarditis. I should take 4 per day but I do not tolerate it.

I too have some nerve issues but it is thought to be autoimmune disease and i am undergoing testing.

This is because of the symptoms i get before a flare which is pretty much every couple of days.

I get painful, prickly hands and feet, muscle spasms and my forehead goes very red and peels.

My forehead does the same ! Never connected that to colchicine

Hi, I like you have to take 4 colchicine a day- 2mg of it. Are yours similar dosages? I’m just worried I might be at risk of health risks from what I’ve read online

Hi, I can only tolerate 1 tab per day as it badly affects my liver, kidneys and stomach unfortunately. I have to have regular blood tests to monitor my liver even on the one tab per day. I’m waiting to see professor Helen Lachmann at the amyloidosis centre in London Royal Free hospital. I hope then to be able to try Anakinra for my pericarditis and effusions.

If you are concerned I would speak to your GP or cardiologist and ask them to run bloods for you.

My cardiologist, Rheumatologist and nephrologist insist on regular bloods because of the side effects.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I’ve read up that it can have severe impacts on certain organs, have you been taking the colchicine for awhile now? I’ve only been taking 4 a day for a few days now and it’s made a big difference with the pericarditis as I don’t feel as much pain but I have been getting a lot of headaches and random muscle pains.

I’m going to get in touch with my cardiologist soon so hopefully I’ll be able to find out if the pericarditis has passed.

I’ve Not heard of Anakinra though but I hope it can help you out.

I’ve been on one a day now for 16 months. I wished I could take more as it really does help but my liver profile goes dangerously high unfortunately. Keep me posted how you get on.

I have taken in the past short term for gout but thankfully that hasn’t flared for a while.

I’ve been on it now for six weeks since I had HA (and pericarditis following stent procedure) and I’m prescribed it, at the moment, for three months; I appreciate that isn’t very long compared to you but I haven’t noticed any particular side effects.

I am on it too following cardiac arrest due to pericarditis, haven't noticed any side effects
