Sildenafil (Viagra) and Diltiazm

Hi folks

I was wondering if any of you blokes take Sildenafil and Dildiazm together. I suffer from coronary artery spams which are generally well controlled most of the time with Dildiazm (200mg). I dont take any other meds .

Prior to being diagnosed I was using sildenafil , but have been scared to use it since then.

My Doc told me itll be fine , but I may have to adjust tbe dose.

I would so love to get my love life back , but just very anxious about the whole thing .

Cheers

Hello,

Sidenafil is contraindicated if you take nitrates such as isosorbide mononitrate.

Some patients living with vasospastic angina are prescribed Sildenafil to treat their coronary vasospasms.

It was a medication that my Cardiologist considered for me however I am very dependent on nitrates in particular IV nitrates to treat my really bad episodes of unstable angina.

I am on maximum doses of Diltiaziem.

I suggest you contact your Cardiologist for their advice.

Also speak to your pharmacist as they are very knowledgeable about drug interactions.

Thanks MF . I've no chance of talking to my cardiologist as I don't seem To have one. From what I gather it seems safe. I was just wondering how the two would work together I.e 2 much of the same thing . I was going to try a small dose 1/2 of a 50 mg sildenafil to see how it goes .

I am really pleased to hear that your Diltiaziem has worked for you.

However Vasospastic angina is a long term heart condition and you do need to be seen by Cardiologist from time to time.

I totally agree, but even my GP has washed his hands of me. Its just shit and im trying to manage this on my own . Its not perfect and do have some bad days , but I feel that, like many, we have been abandoned to get on with it . Bloody COVID has taken over!!! Im sure a lot of people out there would agree with that .

Hi Battle2020, I take sildenfal occasionally, for some reason I don't seem to need it so much these days. I take the usual cocktail of drugs (bisoprolol, aspirin, statin). I have found the sildenfal causes heart burn so I prop it up with lansoprolol. My outlook on life is that you should enjoy it, if not, why bother 🤷. Both my Dr and cardiologist are fine with the sildenfal and I have a repeat prescription. If you don't have it prescribed already, worth asking the doc as it is v expensive. Your sex life is part of you whole wellbeing.

Hi Woodside , thanks for this. I actually have it on repeat prescription , but just scared to use it with diltiazm. I used begore the heart problem with very minor and common side effects. I agree with your comments about wellbeing and life. Im sure it will be fine and will perhaps try a very low dose to being with .

I think its one of those subjects that some people find difficult to talk about , but not me as I want to make the most of life while I can.

If I don't get back you then you'll know it didn't work
