Abscess on aortic root

Has anyone here had surgery for an abscess on the aortic root? My husband has been told that he needs surgery to drain the abscess, but no-one has explained what type of surgery. Is it possible that he will need open heart surgery again (he already had it earlier this year for an aortic valve and root replacement)?

I am hoping that draining it will just need a tube sticking in it, and that it won’t require full opening of the chest, but a lot of the information online mentions replacing the aortic root and removing infected tissue around it.

He will be speaking to a surgeon in the next few days, but I just want to know if this is a possibility so it’s not such a blow if it happens.

That sounds more like the sort of thing that could be done with keyhole surgery.

Seems rather extravagent to go through all that OHS for an absess - but then I'm not a Cardiologist or Surgeon.

I hope it will be the less invasive surgery for all concerned.
