I posted here a few days ago, about monitoring to see for how long I should stay on Amiodorane. Especially for valeriep , who gave me a helpful reply about ecg machines..
I've finally got my Consultant & GP to communicate ! My GP wants me to wear a 24 hour ECG monitor while I'm still taking Amiodorane , to see if I'm safe to come off it. Is that the right way round to do things ? Any advice gratefully received.

In my case, my GP was happy for me to monitor my heart and AF/ heart rate with my FitBit and then I had an ECG a week later (just a quick one at the surgery). I continue to monitor it myself, and I have an alternative to Amiodarone if I need anything urgently (ie if the heart rate stays too high or AF is bad). I am glad to be given the opportunity to have no heart regulating drug post op as Bisoprolol gave such bad side effects my life became unbearable ( that is what I had pre op and also have been given to go back onto if needed). Amiodarone has a half life of up to 3 months so continues to have some effect in your body after coming off it. However I did have some odd withdrawal effects which were the same as my initial side effects on Amiodarone: jerks and twitches, hoarse voice, etc, which came and went. Been off it for nearly 3 weeks now.
