I was wondering what people's experiences have been when informing DVLA about their pacemaker? Any restrictions? Have your insurance premiums changed? I haven't called yet as I'm not driving anyway post op and yet to be seen in pacing clinic. I remain hopeful they will remove it but we will see...

I found it made no difference. The DVLA replied quickly to say I was OK to drive after a week, and my insurance company said it made no difference. I asked them to make a note of the fact I had informed them though. Good luck!

Hi Alessa. I had pace maker fitted on 28/05. Sent off form to DVLA within a few days. No reply as yet. Informed my insurance, no probs and no extra payments. They sent me a letter a few days later saying that this would be on my file and any other insurers would be able to see it, which I agreed to. Good luck

As alreadŷ stated it won't cause any issues with DVLA and the majority of insurance companies aren't interested so it doesn't alter your cover.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences, I'm so pleased to read this, riding is my soul and I cannot wait to get back on then bike. I'm also glad to see that there have been fairly prompt responses from the DVLA/insurance. I hope you hear back very soon potatohead!

You will have to be careful and perhaps leave it longer before you get back on your bike, any fall while your pm is still imbedding itself could be a disaster, last thing you want is to dislodge the wires ! Also stretching forward to the handlebars might put to much strain on the area.

All sound advice, thank you. I'll not be able to until my sternum has healed fully and strengthened anyway (my PPM was an unexpected complication of my tricuspid valve replacement). I'll be sure to be cautious
