symptoms following open heart surgery

I'm 33 and had open heart surgery two months ago to repair my mitral valve. My resting heart rate before surgery used to be around 55 bpm but after surgery this jumped to 100 bpm. The doctor said this was normal and was just the heart adjusting and that it would go down over time. Over the next two months it gradually went down to around 80 bpm. This last week I started having palpitations and my resting heart rate suddenly changed to around 45bpm in a period of two days. An EKG also showed signs of an irregular heart rhythm. The doctors told me that this was not anything to worry about and put me on lanoxin for the irregular rhythm and told me to make sure i was eating healthily (plenty of fruits and veg), drinking enough water and taking it easy. Will need to return for follow up EKG and to check my INR as i'm on warfarin for three months following my op. I was just wondering if anybody had similar symptoms following open heart surgery.

Hi Gav hope that things have settled down. I would maybe call the specialist nurse or BHF nurse if not as they'd be well placed to advise you. You've done amazing and just call for reassurance if you need to.
