Hi, new to this forum. Just found out I had a heart attack from an ecg. Paramedics said I hadn’t had one as ecg was perfect when they came out. Follow up ecg found damage. Always been healthy ,I am 62 and this has caused such a shock to me I am wracked with anxiety and not sleeping. Took 2 weeks for my GP surgery to get this right after three ‘normal’ diagnosis. Anyway ,nice to be somewhere that I can talk about it. GP has prescribed some blood thinners and beta blockers plus a referral.

Hello :-)

Anytime we are told we have had a heart attack comes as a shock

I had a heart attack back in Oct then Feb and March this year and waiting for a Bypass op

When I had my first heart attack in Oct they knew and so did I straight away but when I was in Hospital in Oct the shock I got is that they saw an old scar on my heart and said I must have had a smaller heart attack at some time , one I had never noticed I had , I was really shocked

Good news I think for you is eventually they have found you have had a heart attack , it could be a small one who knows but the most important thing is they have finally picked it up , you are now on meds , been referred and they are so good once you have been diagnosed they can do everything to prevent you from having another one :-)

I totally get you are anxious , my anxiety is through the roof and then some and I relate to the not sleeping in fact it can take over my every thought all day but if at some stage they had realised I had a small heart attack before the big one happened then I might not be here needing Bypass surgery so even though your Doctors took their time you are on the right track now which look at that as been a positive :-) x

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I am struggling so much as this is very early days, it was only confirmed yesterday. I pick up my prescription tomorrow and swap from aspirin to something else. Anyway ,thanks again.

It is normal to feel the way you do especially as you only found out yesterday , this is a life changing event that has happened it would be abnormal if you did not feel this way but as soon as you get the support and reassurance by seeing the experts it will improve :-)

Be kind to yourself and give yourself time :-) x

Sorry to hear your bad news I had a ha at aged 56 always thought of myself as fit I'm a tree surgeon so a physical job two stents fitted I'm 67 now and only this past couple of days have had any trouble ,angina, apart from that i recovered well as you will do .it takes a bit to realise that we are all vulnerable and it is a shock at first but dont let your head go down try to think positive you survived and cardiology has improved you should get some good advice and treatment but you must pursue it dont let them fob you off you are entitled to good treatment .try and get on cardio rehab it's very good and will give you confidence good luck

Thank you so much. It is heartening to read your story and that it’s eleven years since your heart attack. All I am thinking is I will have another bigger one and I won’t see my grandchildren grow up . It’s obsessing my every thought.

I found it very difficult to repeatedly keep finding the energy and motivation to start picking myself up again..and again...and again. I’m afraid I can’t reassure you about how well you will do, eventually, but it seems gradually picking yourself up, taking small steps and building up your strength is your very best choice.

I know what it’s like ...just getting downstairs,.... or getting dressed....seemed almost impossible, at times. But my life has at last improved and much more consistently. It can happen, and is worth all the setbacks.
