Upcoming ablation

Hi everyone,

Having my first ablation on July 7 and am nervous tbh.

Guess I’m most nervous as to whether to ask for a general anaesthetic or go for sedation - thoughts?

Am also worried about the recovery….sounds like it’s long and pretty difficult at times.

Fingers crossed I’ll be ok and will get an improved lifestyle back.

Thanks for reading everyone

Rob.

I think it's natural to be nervous before an ablation, that little thought goes round and around in your head as to whether you're doing the right thing. Afterwards you wonder why you worried.

Do you have a choice of GA or sedation? I would think not at this late stage as they will either have arranged for an anaesthetist to attend or not. I've had both and there's not a lot of difference, either way you will not be aware of what's going on. Sometimes with sedation they let you come to a little bit when they can.

Wishing you a successful outcome tomorrow, Please make sure you let us know how it all goes.

Thanks Jean. It’s July 7 so have a few wks yet. I think they’d rather I went for sedation as this is better from a recovery perspective

Yes, I can see its July now. Have they given you a choice of what you can have?

I had an ablation in 2012. Was a breeze. The only part afterwards that bothered me was the cannula they had placed in the groin area caused MASSIVE bruising. No pain, just black and purple all around the area for a few weeks. I was back at work a week later, although in hindsight I think that I did rush that. The part I hated was that I forgot to bring the charger in for my phone, so I was bored stiff that night - because who can sleep in hospital right?

Hi there, whilst waiting to go in fo my stents I was chatting to a guy who had just had an ablation done. I was waiting in the recovery room to go in. He explained the procedure as I had not heard of it before. Amazing, plus he said he’d hardly felt a thing.Hope all goes well for you. Ps I had some sedative when I had my stents fitted, I’m a real wuss when it comes to needles n pins. Good stuff too....😜😜
