Hi everyone, please can anyone tell me if they have had there sternum wires removed? I’m 11 years post bypass and seen on my mri report the sternum wires are pressing against AF free wall So worried I’m going to ask if they can remove them but don’t know if it’s to late down the line ? Thankyou

Hi Best2, I had my wires removed - I think it was around 2 years after surgery. For me it was because I could feel them rubbing/catching against my skin from the inside. It was a quick operation (under general anaesthetic) and solved the problem. I'm sure that if your wires posed any risk to your heart, your doctor would be straight onto it, but if it's worrying you, you should definitely talk to them about it.

I've asked but no luck, I had two surgeries with in 1 week suffered prolonged pain.

When I was in having my Aortic valve replaced someone came in to have his wires removed. However he was the appointment manager at the hospital. I can feel the sharp bits on mine when I touch my chest.

Aw it’s not comfortable is it mine move when I roll over in bed ! Maybe the guy was given special treatment if he was a colleague ? !!!

He probably got priority for his original operation as well.I had to wait 15 months.

They didnt really say much but reiterated it was due to having two surgeries. I'm still taking pain meds twice daily just seems this will be pretty long term for me.
