Breathlessness

I’ve had a call from my cardiologist who has said my echo came back with good results. (Triple Bypass and Mitral Valve Repair 18 months ago) Diagnosed with Heart Failure weeks ago. Slight MV leak).

My peak flow readings are around 600. The Cardiologist said that he thought my breathlessness is likely to be respiratory. I’m now confused.com?

How can it be lung problems with the peak flow readings I’m getting.

Thanks for any help/comments.

Kind regards

David

Morning Davewm, a lot of people on here experience breathlessness. Most of us put it down to bisoprolol. Are you taking this or any other beta blocker?

Personally, I keep very fit (compared to before heart op) and find it frustrating to find myself short of breath when walking uphill. I start by keeping to level ground until I get my pace sorted.

Hope this helps.

Hi Wooodsie.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I’m on bisoprolol. The cardiologist put me on 3.75mg whilst waiting for my surgery (I’d originally been on 2.5mg) following a diagnosis of Prinzmetal Angina in 2011.

After my recent collapse it’s now been reduced back to 2.5mg. I’ve also been prescribed Spironolactone for the HF.

It’s an interesting point you’ve raised and I’ll take it up with the GP.

Thanks again.

Kind regards

Dave

Hi Davewm,I had a quadruple bypass almost exactly a year ago. Since my operation I have suffered breathlessness to some degree. I have been in hospital with it twice and onboth occasions I had a normal ecg and oxygen saturation greater than 98%. Doctors eventually put my breathlessness down to anxiety and prescribed a low dose of mirtazapine. I have never felt in any way anxious post op. but that said the medication has kept it under control and now I only suffer mild symptoms and only on rare occasions. Might be worth mentioning to GP.
