A common question with most forms of heart disease is why me, I am too young, etc. Josh Downie's unfortunate death at 24 shows that heart disease can strike at any age. I know someone who had stents at 30 and someone else who was fitted with an ICD at the same age.

I think all of us ask, why me? No matter what age. But worrying about your chances is not going to improve life. I don't think the medical community really understand why? Sure bad cholesterol leads to blockages, but what they don't tell you is that if you have great cholesterol you are stuck with the plaque in your veins for life. I have never been above 3 cholesterol levels, but still continue with heart attacks and stents. But in saying that, it's still very important to do all you can to help yourself. But worrying certainly won't help. Take care.
Was it a heart attack though or a cardiac arrest? The two are very different and nobody (certainly those who’ve not suffered from them) seem to know the difference. I suffered a cardiac arrest at 37 playing football and was very lucky that fellow players were trained in cpr and there was a defib at the facility. People often ask why I suffered from my heart attack to which I respond “I haven’t”.
I think we all ask ourselves that from time to time. When I had my at home SCA at 42 I'd never thought it could happen to me. Thanks to my son who gave me CPR and the amazing first responder who was only 2 minutes away and 9 days on a ventilator I am still here. The doctors did every test and could find no reason why it happened, they said I was a mystery. I thank god every day for being here. My heart aches for all those who don't make it and their families. Life is so precious x
