Open water swimming
What has your GP said? We were told during rehab that particularly rapid immersion in cold water is not great for your heart at the best of times never mind if you have Angina! I feel fine and do quite a bit of running to a decent level for my age and lately swimming, never had any Angina since the stents went in, but to be honest I was very reluctant to get into the sea last summer and ended up not doing so.
GP says the decision to swim has to be mine not really an answer
Hi Haston,
The cold is often a trigger for angina.
I have to wear a wetsuit even in an Indoor swimming pool.
I personally wouldn't swim in cold water. Even walking outside in the cold weather will trigger my angina.
There are several considerations to be made:
How well controlled is your angina?
You can't easily use GTN spray whilst swimming.
If you do get into trouble will there be a life guard present when you go swimming?
I would suggest you check with your Cardiology Team.
