I used to take Atorvastatin and Bisoprolol together before breakfast as doctor told me timing with Atorvaststin was irrelevant. While I was recovering from infection and amputation it was moved to evening. My cholesterol subsequently went up by 0.1 so change of no significance. Why not take it early evening.
You should have LFT (liver function) and cholesterol blood tests 6 - 8 weeks after starting Atorvastatin.
Brill just didn’t know wether together or they would interact ,, that’s same as me if don’t do bedtime I’ll forget ,, brilliant glad your keepin well , thank you for replying much help x
I was advised by the cardiologist to take bisoprolol in the morning, it slows my heart during the day - not needed at night and I take atorvastatin (80mg) in the evening as the liver makes most cholesterol at night. So far so good for me
Ahh Oki I maybe try the morning then as that makes sense as when you sleep if drops ,, aah that’s interesting yeah gonna try the evening as someone else said then too ,, I’ll just put alarm so I don’t forget as that why I take on night , thank you for replying x
Hi there, I take Bisoprolol 7.5 mgs in the morning and Atorvastatin 80 mgs at night. No reason given for this just the way it was prescribed. No issues from doing it this way so I will keep in rattling with all the other pills as well. 🤪
I take Atorvastatin 80mgs at night according to the instructions that I have and haven’t had any problems so far. I’ve been taking it for about 5 weeks. In the past I was referred to a Consultant and given help with diet etc to lower my cholesterol. I was given a diet sheet that detailed foods to avoid as well as foods that are good for you. I have managed to keep my cholesterol down and within range (I’m taking Atorvastatin higher dose to bring it down to around 1.8. I was on Simvastatin 20mgs and levelling at 4.5.)
This is a link to the NHS website which has lots of information about lowering and managing your cholesterol.
Okay thank you ,, yes I will try take mine on a night too and my biaoprolol in a morning ,, okay that Is brilliant thank you so much I will definitely take a look at that ,, excellent news I’m glad yours has come down , I don’t have a clue what my level is should I ask I just had annual blood test and said was too high ,,
Okay yes I haven’t a clue I just on dash diet at the min for my blood pressure but some say yes to some n vice versa but I’m getting there slowly lol
It's an interesting question and even the medical profession are confused about the right answer. I'm a biochemist (with a heart bypass, which explains why I'm on this forum) and I have done a bit of reading of the scientific literature. Atorvastatin has a long half-life in the body. This means that you metabolise and excrete it quite slowly. So it really doesn't matter when you take it because it hangs about and does it job throughout the day and night. The dose you take the next day just tops up the amount and makes sure it's always working.
In contrast, the older statins (like lovastatin) have a short half-life and so they don't last very long in your body. They should be taken in the evening because (as someone else has said) you make most of your cholesterol at night. Many GPs remember the rules for the older statins so always recommend taking statins in the evening. But the newer statins, like Atorvastatin, can be taken any time of day. I started taking my Atorvastatin dose in the morning, then changed it to the evening and it made no difference to my cholesterol levels.
Yes, we pharmacists say the same about Atorvastatin due to long half life. Having said that I still take it in the evening. I’m on two bp meds and there’s a move now to take one in the morning and one in the evening as there’s increasing evidence that many people’s bp rises significantly over night. Still more research to be done.
Well think it’s defo the evening for me as think all majority have said they take on evening no all good which is fab news ,, ooh that’s interesting is that a certain bp medication coming or already out , these researchers are so clever without them we’d know nothing hopefully a quick research , thank u for that x
Not a new bp med. just that many of us are on more than one bp med. advice used to be to take them all together in the morning. Now it’s looking like it’s a good idea to take one at night. It doesn’t seem to matter which one.
Just a quick addition to what I said : I should also have added (and I hope it's obvious) that, although it doesn't matter when in the day you decide to take your Atorvastatin, you should always take it at the same time every day.
