hi guys, hope everyone is ok. if you have read my story you will see that I've been on propanolol since the beginning of Feb. I'm going to try to update this post to describe what my journey is like weaning off propanolol. as with other people they have me really awful side affects but they do stop the tachycardia.

I read so many horror stories, I'm hoping I don't experience the same thing but just thought it told be helpful for others as when I searched yesterday the posts all seemed to be negative and nobody really updated them, they just gave the initial feeling so I thought I'd try to do a journey to show what happens throughout.

my dosage was 10mg twice a day for about 6 -8 weeks, then I doubled to 20mg twice a day for 3 - 4 week.

I used to take 2 x 10mg in the morning and 2 x 10mg in the evening

Day 1.

I tried to take 1 x 10mg in the morning. by the afternoon my HR was up over 100 I was feeling palpitations and basically craving the next tabs in the evening. (that day my BP was low and I felt really sick, all side effects I believe of the Propranolol)

that night I took my usual 2 x 10mg. (HR went back down and just experienced the usual unwell feeling)

Day 2.

morning dose as normal 2 x 10mg. by the evening I checked my resting HR which was in the high 70s low 80s which is good for me so took a big risk and decided not to take my night time dosage (this was agreed by my cardiologist who asked that I half my dosage daily initially.)

for me I was really worried initially because my tachycardia started at night time with sleep so I thought it was going to be disastrous, HOWEVER, it honestly wasn't bad it took a bit longer to doze off and I think that was my mind personally but I just kept telling myself don't over react you're not addicted to these drugs you are getting better it will be fine. I slept until about 4.30am woke up went to the toilet and laid back down, I felt a slight palpitation but again I self soothed and told myself, you will be fine this is normal it's the first night don't give in. I fell asleep within about 30 min and slept until 7am.

so night one without not too bad.

Day 3.

woken up feeling ok, resting HR of 79, which is good for me. so my plan is to take my tabs this morning and then try again tonight to go without.( mentally I feel like I don't need one now but I'm going to not make a drastic stop so my body has time to adjust.

update - took 2 x 10mg in morning so most of today I felt awful bp wasn't bad but just feeling really sick. had some elevated HR moments throughout the day but just pushed through it. not sure if it was kickback for not taking any the night before, also had the odd twinge of pain which I haven't felt for a while.

HR wasn't bad towards evening but still took 1 x 10mg as I don't want to start tomorrow off like I did today. last night wasn't bad, a bit achy but positive

Day 4.

1 x 10mg this morning, for some reason I felt really tired. but HR and BP seemed ok. been feeling quite tired and breathless all day. not great mood. feeling a bit tearful, not sure if uts the tab reduction. just had enough of being unwell really.

UPDATE

well I thought I'd be keeping up with the days but I had a couple of bad days. I have had some average days too. biggest issue I'm experiencing is tiredness and some dull aching pain not sure if that's the meds or the long term effects of the suspected covid.

UPDATE

so not sure if this post is even helping anyone so this may be my last update, but I've managed to cut down to 2 x 10mg q day, still some tachycardia at times but manageable. the pain is also there sometimes and sometimes I worry about it but I just keep having faith that one day this bad experience will be a distant memory.

I will update this post or write a new one in a day or so to let you know how it goes.
