Hi, it depends on what medication you are on for high blood pressure. My experience is that it is not immediate and can take a few weeks to become really effective but it really does depend on the medication and the strength of that medication. I am taking amlodipine and losartan and it took a few weeks for my blood pressure to reduce to an acceptable level,

Ok. I have not taken ramipril myself so I cannot tell you how long it will take to reduce your blood pressure but I can say that, from my experience with blood pressure medication, it takes time to reduce blood pressure. I am sure you will be followed up by your GP and the medication/dosage will be adjusted accordingly. I can't help you with side effects either, not having taken it myself but I am sure that someone who has/is taking it will respond to your post.

Hi there! You will need to give your medication time to work. Some of that which has been prescribed may not suit you and may need to be changed. The doses may also need to be adjusted. We are all different, so the cardiac team will start with their standard combination and make changes as we react to the drugs. I was on blood pressure medication before my heart attack, so for me it was a case of adding other drugs and adjusting one or another. It took quite a few months to get the combination right.

Best wishes for the future,

Gerald

Hi, I was started on blood pressure tablets and other medication after being diagnosed with unstable angina in November. It does take time for them to work and get in to your system. I have had the dosage tweaked a few times but your GP will alter the dosage if needs be.

I was started on Ramipril but started with a dry cough which is one of the side effects, but we are all different and not everyone is affected. My GP changed the Ramipril to losartan although the cough takes time to go. I do not know about side effects to your other medication as it is different to mine.

I’m on Clopidogrel and Bisoprolol. I’ve not had any major side effects. I did have some diarrhoea but it might have been my other tablets.

Everyone reacts differently and it does take time for your body to get used to the medication. It can also take a few weeks for the drugs to be fully effective.

That said, no medication will be authorised unless the side effects are mild in most cases.

Check your weight. There is a well established link between blood pressure and even slightly excess weight?

Statins also interfere with brain function hence the known dumbing down effect. There is considerable doubt as to whether they have any benefit but they certainly have side effects.

Hi, also had the same problem with muscle pain due to the statin and have now gone down to 10mg from 80mg. Also gave me lower back pain which made sleeping very awkward and also due to high cholesterol I now have frozen shoulder which could take years to go away.

Musculoskeletal pain is probably caused by Statins.

I think you should think very seriously about statin use. Research does not back up some claims.
