Not sure this is really relevant here! But I know there are a few "cyclists" who may offer an opinion.
Never been a keen road cyclist, used to to do quite a bit of MTB before suspension & after to a certain degree! Anyway, took to road cycling before my SCA, then after thought I would never get back to a level of fitness to use my carbon road bike, so sold it!!!
Now, amazingly, I feel fitter cardio wise than before!!!! Regret selling my bike & am looking to buy a new "Gravel" bike, reason being I bought a Hybrid which is not up to what I want to now do!
So, I want to commute, 5/10 miles to work/gym, road cycle at weekends (20-30miles) and also ride the local (& not so local) gravel (ex Railway) paths (20-30miles).
And a long question to ask, narrowed it to 2 bikes (i think), a Mason Bokeh or the new Cube Nuroad C62 Sl. Both expensive(ish) but I deserve it + my mum who passed away 12 months ago left me a little which will pay for it and tickle her
Not seen either of those Gaz but I own a Cannondale Super X, bought it about three years ago, not ridden it much of late but absolutely loved it pre discovering my heart issues. Carbon Frame, 105 and disc's obviously. It's a cyclocross but fine on the road as well, although gearing is more for off road. I sold my road bike earlier in the year, gutted to sell it but couldn't see me doing 10% + climbs and 80 milers which was my staple. Plan to get back on the Super X as well so won't sell it.
Most gravel are "1 by" these days, which seem like a really good idea and the way forward so I'd say go for that, SRAM seem to be the masters of that area although I'm sure Shimano/Campag are very good as well. Go carbon as well, much more forgiving and better for the hills as I am sure you know.
I'm going electric next year!
Happy Christmas and Happy NBD for when it arrives!
Thx, not sure about the Carbon vs Alu as I will either go tubeless 650x47 or 700x45 which should give the comfort over either, at least that’s what I’m reading.
Don't know either and don't own a gravel bike but an MTB and a road bike. HA 8 years ago now and now fitter than ever. If the specs are the same then choose the best looking to you. But if you can actually see them then sit on them and you will instantly know. If you can test ride them then 200 yards you'll know which.
Glad to hear that you are taking on cycling again. I love gravel riding and regularly take my Vitus Substance on my commute or off the beaten track near my house.
Take a look at Vitus, great bikes and you get quite a bit of bang for your buck.
