Hi Jax14 I have been the opposite and experienced severe muscle pain by being on atorvastatin I have had to reduce to 10mg and only take it every other day now, my husband had to come of it altogether because he had so much pain in his legs he had difficulty walking.Sorry I can't be of much help, hope you get it sorted soon. Take care Ruth

Hi,

Like Ruth who replied earlier, I too experienced the opposite including my muscles visibly ‘spasming’. They tried different statins and eventually settled on Rosuvastatin which was the least impacting in terms of said pain and effects. I also was a on a much lower dosage and on top of that used to split the tablet to take half in the evening and half before bed which helped... I would recommend seeing your Doctor to discuss your situation.

Hope that helps.

Three years ago, I took 40mg Atorvastatin for six months, until I reached the point when walking became a great problem. I had no muscle pain, but, at times, my legs felt like lead, so that putting one foot before the other was a huge effort. At other times, my legs felt like jelly, as if they would just give way. I stopped the medication, with my GP’s agreement - but he gave me a prescription for 10mg Atorvastatin in case I wished to try again.Last year, I tried the 10mg dose. Within one week, the same symptoms returned. I stopped immediately and will not take them again.

We are all different and our body reacts in different ways. It is important to listen to that reaction.

Hi Jax14 I've been on 20mg Atorvastatin for nearly a year with no problems. I don't know how it has affected my cholesterol because due to the Covid outbreak I didn't get the blood test 6 weeks later and was happy to continue with repeat prescriptions. I am due for annual blood checks in the New Year so cholesterol level will be seen then. I'm happiest as far away feom doctors' surgeries as possible for now. A consultation due to my recurring sciatica was done by phone and I'm hoping for more epidural treatment in the future. There is another type of anticholesteral drug a friend went on but I can't remember what it's called. Persist with your doctor until you get something to suit. There are always alternatives.

The statins can cause inflammation in the muscles (called myositis). This inflammation is started by the statin, but once started it can sometimes carry on even after stopping the statin. So, it may take time for the inflammation to subside, even after stopping the drug. Think of it as a process, once triggered doesn't always immediately die down. But without the causative drug, the myositis ought to resolve. How long it takes, can be quite an individual matter. So I hope your muscle pains reduce soon for you.
