So where did you read this? The following is from the introduction on Bisoprolol on the NHS website:

Bisoprolol is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure.

If you have high blood pressure, taking bisoprolol helps prevent future heart disease, heart attacks and strokes.

Bisoprolol is also used to prevent chest pain caused by angina.

It's also used to treat atrial fibrillation and other conditions that cause an irregular heartbeat.

I have neither high blood pressure or ab or chest pain that's why I think gp says I have hf stage one symptonless I also think the meds seemed to have made my condition worse yes I had a ha but due to hormone tab side affect I think meds are helpful but always started to rethink incase the meds could be making me worse and I don't know how to explain this to gp

Hi Yass

As with any medication there are always pros and cons.

In some rare circumstances the very medications that we are prescribed can make our conditions worse.

In my case beta blockers will make my vasospastic angina worse.

The NICE ( National Institute of Clinical Excellence ) guidelines has some information about how Heart Failure should be managed. It does not indicate that beta blockers cause heart problems or reduce life expectancy.

I suggest you talk to your Cardiologist to ask them to explain why you have been prescribed your beta blockers.

According to EMC the following are included in known undesirable effects :

Cardiac disorders:

Very common: bradycardia (in patients with chronic heart failure).

Common: worsening of pre-existing heart failure (in patients with chronic heart failure).

Uncommon: AV-conduction disturbances, worsening of pre-existing heart failure (in patients with hypertension or angina pectoris); bradycardia (in patients with hypertension or angina pectoris).

It say's worsening in pre-existing, not causing HF.
