Aortic Aneurism Surgery

Hi, I had a replacement Aortic valve and aneurism fixed in 2018, since then I’ve had odd times of numbness primarily on my right side either arm or top of leg that last about 10 minutes and then on other occasions intense dizziness and feeling sick that last about 10-20 seconds, it’s like being in a spin dryer. I can’t recall these two things happening on same day. Today one followed the other.

Earlier in the year I had 72 hour heart monitor that detected nothing. I’m a keen runner and cyclist and have noticed on Strava my heart rate has become spiky. In a COVID world GP not really interested in these symptoms, has anybody experienced symptoms like this before or can provide any information

Thanks

Pete

Hi Pete I’ve recently been diagnosed with a root aortic aneurism and a leaking valve I’ve only had a letter and am awaiting confirmation of an appointment with the cardiologist. I also like to cycle as you do but have stopped pending advice, just curious to learn what you did prior to surgery to manage with your condition? Did you carry on cycling or were you advised to take it easy generally?I’m sorry I can’t help you with your BP issue other than I have found some BP meds have had that effect on me, when I get it I cannot get a reliable reading on my monitor as it goes from low to high from one reading to the next.

Hi Lyndon, apologies for the delay in replying I seem to struggle to log back into the site. My consultant was not keen for me to do any exercise pre surgery but I had been cycling and running extensively up to the September. The surgery was 4th December. I did a deal with him to run no more than 3 miles from September until surgery and I dropped my pace. What does your aneurism measure? I was over 5 cm.

After surgery I would say take it very steady, walk a lot but resist the temptation to push too hard, I started running again in the February and delayed cycling to May but high intensity stuff made me feel unwell. I’m happy to share my experiences pre and post surgery if you need any more

Regards Pete
