Does anybody else feel like health is a luxury?

I feel like life hasn't been particularly easygoing on me. I was bullied for the entire duration of my education, it took me four years to get a job and once I moved away from my parents I had no kitchen and no money to make food from. I had to live off of friends and family for a while and it's only recently that I've been able to support myself. Somewhere along the line I frankly stopped giving a fuck about my health in general. I haven't cared about a single night's sleep or a single meal for years. People have consistently asked me to skip the gym just to go see them. I had no treatment for PCOS for the past six years. People keep calling me to go to work and it's only recently that I've started getting payed for showing up somewhere in spite of four hours of sleep having cried myself to bed the night before. And the second I'm parking my arse down with a book or a show or a game that I like people tell me I'm selfish and lazy and stupid for liking shit that keeps me distracted from feeling like shit. We need a whole new perspective on staying healthy, you guys, cause this is why we keep paying health care for people who never needed to get sick to start with.

This is a peer-to-peer support group for individuals, and their relatives and friends. Your post frankly adds nothing and as such has been reported. I hope you can get your health issues sorted and wish you all the best for the future. There are a number of HealthUnlocked forums and a number are probably more appropriate to you.

In contrast to Micheal, I think your title asks a good question- and one that many people who experience chronic illnesses both mental and physical (heart disease) included. So I will answer the question in the title.

I do not necessarily think its a 'luxury' but it is something everyone has to work to achieve. It will not be afforded to anyone on a Golden Platter. That said, just like learning to read or draw, some people find they have to work harder at it than other people. I for example, had a congenital deformity that means I can not naturally go to the toilet. This means when I get home from work I need to give myself a special type of rectal enema. This is unpleasant and I really do not want to do it when tired. I "waste'" 7hrs a week doing this. That is 7 hours I could spend talking to friends, working on my dreams or just watching telly and relax. Trust me when I tired after work I really do not want to do it but unfortunately, without doing it I would be constipated and in pain pretty quickly. Other things I have to work harder at include Cooking- I have a dexterity problem that makes curtting veg difficult but if I do not do it my rectal problems get harder to handle. Physio- I have to do 30 minutes Physio on my Pelvic Floor due to prevent my stress incontinence and help my rectal problems. I have to find time to do all this around working full time. As a cardiac patient this is particularly tiring and I still need to find time to exercise as if I do not my general stamina to deliver on these things will deteriorate. I am 24 this week- and yes I can look at other 24 year olds who do not have to work this hard but it does not really solve my problem. The only thing that does that is to do my best to deliver on everything I need to do and to listen to my body to notice when something needs a bit more attention.

I seocnd what Micheal has said, by the sound of reading your post there maybe a few forums on here more suited to finding advice for yourself. Also being a peer support forum, you may get a better response if you ask for advice about something specific.
