Hi. Can someone with implanted defibrillators use a sonic pest repellent device in their house. None of the ones we have looked at have any advice, and in these covid times don’t want to bother hospital. Thank you.

Hello Daisy,

It's all in the name, i.e. sonic bang. These devices use sound waves not E-M (electro-magnetic) radiation which would not affect pacemakers/ICDs. What I would advise after decades working in telephony is to keep the actual device 6" - 12" away from your ICD - in fact there is no reason to be close to it.

One thing to bear in mind is these devices are not 100% as often the creatures they are meant to deter start to ignore them probably thinking "bl**y noisy neighbours". If you have a mouse/rat problem I recommend a cat! Friends moved into a flat where the bin area had an ongoing rat problem. Their two cats totally cleared the problem in weeks.
