Hi all

Just starting week 3 in recovery for AVR+triple bypass. I have a clicking in the rib area of operation. It is not continuous, mainly at times of getting out of bed in the morning, is this normal?

Hi Joel, yes perfectly normal. Your breastbone will have been wired together after your op and it usually takes about six weeks for it to fuse and 12 for it to be solid. As you are only getting the noise as you’re getting out of bed it is likely to just be slight movement after you’ve been lying down all night. Mine did the same after my ops.

Hope your recovery continues to go well.

Perfectly normal Joel. After three months or so the clicking sound/feeling won't bother you at all. Like Fredders says, the breastbone will have wires to help the breastbone knit together. Don't lift, push or pull heavy stuff!!

You're doing OK xxxx

Hope everything is well with your recovery. I had my AVR and triple bypass also three weeks ago but was lucky enough to have been provided with a sternum support brace by the hospital and so far have had no noticeable movement or pain from the operation site.

Hi Joel 132,

Unfortunately it seems to be normal, I had my triple a year and a half ago and I had a lot of clicking for the first six months. It's gradually gotten quieter unless I'm lifting something heavy. I've had several new noises and twinges since surgery, but nothing I can't live with. I'm Happy for You, that you made it through the surgery. After my experience, I'm rooting for anyone that makes it through the bypass surgery. I made it through, but the damage left me terminal and everyday is truly a gift. So Joel enjoy that click.

I'm Rooting for You!
