So I was 36 had a heart attack 1 stent fitted ok since then minimal to no damage on all the meds. Saw my cardiologist once but never again. Why am I not under a consultant and why do I never have any scans or anything to make sure I'm still ok?

Hello
I had Aortic valve replaced and bypass 4 years ago. Saw my surgeon 6 weeks after surgery and my cardiologist 6 months after surgery discharged back to my GP. I am to have a echocardiogram yearly none so far this year! As long as the pressure is ok on the new valve that’s it for another year. I think as long as you have no new symptoms and your GP is happy with you . We don’t see anyone else.

Thankyou I've just always wondered why they don't keep check with us after our history.
I think it’s a case of you have been fixed and now there’s nothing for the cardiologist to do or the surgeon, so it’s back to your GP. I think we have to be aware ourselves and report any symptoms to the GP so he/she can either look at our meds or send us back to the cardiologist.
After the hospital was happy that your stent procedure was a success you would have been discharged back to your GP. It's the same for almost everyone on this forum, after the operation or procedure the hospital and the hospital consultants bow out, and its back to your GP.
That all makes pretty good sense really, because there's nothing more for the hospital to do. Your future wellbeing is down to two things, taking your medication and making significant lifestyle changes.
Having said that, most of us get an annual check up, either with our GP or with the practise nurse. Things are a bit confused with Covid, but that normally involves a blood test, checking your weight and blood pressure, and possibly a basic ECG. Why not contact your GP, explain you've had a heart attack a few years back, and request an annual cardiac check up?
Good luck!
Thankyou I always wondered why some stay under cardiologist and others don't. I do have a blood test and BP check yearly. Also cardiologist said mine was due to smoking as I was only 36 at the time but how can they tell? Mine was left circumflex. Do they think we are less risk also is that maybe why we don't stay under hospital.
I agree with what has been said. I was discharged back to the care of my GP within a couple of months of having a HA and stents. I had a triple bypass 11 months after my HA (elective surgery) and was discharged to the care of my GP after three months. As with other conditions, the care offered by your GP will vary, so if you are not being asked to have blood tests or take BP readings, I would raise these issues with your GP.
Seems very normal. I had a HA and two stents in the same artery, two years ago. Apart from bloods by GP and a nurse check up, that's it. I think of the cardio team as plumbers. We fixed your blocked pipe, it's up to you now to get an annual service and change your lifestyle
Hello my mam had a stent about 6 years ago she went onto have follow up but was a good few weeks tested on a bike thing exercises which showed she was very fit she had another heart block 4 years later 2 years ago she saw the nurse once to check that her bloods were ok as she had inflammation she had a balloon angioplast that time as the block was too close to the other stent, have you contacted your doctor I think there just cutting right back I'm still waiting for follow up on leg cancer it's cleared but it's 3 month's over due I saw the doctor he said just keep chasing it up as I have a little new spot that's looks dodgy he said get it checked out when you see specialist last time I did get through they said there's a backlog because of the vitus and the specialists on leave, I would look after yourself read up on cholestrol lowering doors and keeping inflammation in the body down I know lots of people with stents they don't have any problems with them I wish you well 🌈
Thank you for that. I hope you manage to get sorted out. Take care all the best.
I had a heart attack at 56. was hospitalised and had a stent fitted. Routine aappt to have another check after 3 months where they fitted another stent. Since then no cardiologist appts, and only 1 yearly appt with nurse at local GP. No problems, taking all meds. that was 3 years ago.
Hello a diet to help get rid of inflammation is good termaric with black pepper and greens and cholestrol lowering foods reduce your saturated fat it was pork pies that added to mam's first block she didn't understand about cholestrol pastry is bad and lard we use cold pressed rapeseed oil even for baking 😋 mam smoked for many years and this causes narrow arteries and she like chicken skin and used to out the juices in the gravey and she liked duck and chocolate I wish you well 🌈
Coming under the GP after an HA and stent seems to be the norm, then an annual check up unless you have problems along the way, so it’s been 10 months since I saw my GP and my intention is to make the next appointment count and in advance ask for an Electrocardiogram
