My 3rd atack happend in customers premises lucky for me they hade a first aider on the premises how kept my blood flowing till the ambulance arrived and shocked my heart back working my question is this its bina year and I still haven't got back to work as I am still having ongoing investigations just had mri and stress test done what I would like to now is am i looking unrealistically at going back to work I am a lorry driver so still don't no if dvla will reinstate my lgv

Hi josphe, sorry to hear about your latest HA, I can understand how this has impacted on your job. I am a taxi driver, (had CABGx4 a month ago) and we come under Group 2 regulations the only difference is I don't have to inform the DVLA just my licencing authority. I had my taxi badge revoked and within 3 months I have to have the standard Bruce protocol test. Once the DVLA exercise tolerance test criteria are met I will have to have a echocardiogram and confirm ejection fraction of at least 40%. I have no idea how much this will cost plus I have to have a group 2 medical which is another £150 to my GP for a 15-minute medical exam. I am seriously thinking of jacking in the taxi driving and getting a nice little caretaking job. My aim is to eliminate as much stress as I can.

Thanks for the reply yes ime after getting the all clear from my consultant I then have to have a medical from gp but there not doing them at the moment then if d la are happy for me to have my hgv back I will have to wait for the treadmill test the wife dosent rearly want me to go driving but that's all I now and at 63 nobody will want to retrain me,

Hi Josphe I understand your dilemma and the psychological stress that you are experiencing. I have just had a life changing cardiac experience, not a 'traditional' heart attack where the large vessels in the heart are affected but something that very little is known about where the small vessels are affected. I have had no choice but to go back to a very stressful job. Which I am sure has contributed to my condition. Can you afford to give up your job? How stable is your condition and could you guarantee that you wouldn't have another heart attack while driving your truck? Enjoy your time at home, get a less stressful and demanding job.....

My friend is 60, spent 30 years as HGV driver, never smoked, not overweight, non drinker had a stroke 6 months ago, stress induced! probably will never drive again...my advice quit now while you are still reasonably healthy.

I would think twice about returning to the driving job .

Hi I had to give up work after being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure, at 58, it was an office job, I live alone and I was obviously worried sick about my bills which didn't help the old ticker, but there was help there, I took my pension and I am in receipt of eesa, contribution based and PIP, I contacted the advice centre and they were so helpful with forms etc, our council has one and I believe the citizens advice are very helpful as well, I hope you are feeling a bit better at the moment, take care char

Thankyou to every one for their kind thoughts as you all seem to say the same thing (do I rearly want to go back to the job that's a contributing factor in my illness,, i sertantly have got to sit down and take stock thank you all so much pleas all keep well.
