Worried about palpitations

Hi. I am a long-term sufferer of anxiety. I am 50 and post menopausal. In March I had a virus (no idea if it was Covid but could have been) which had long term symptoms including chest pain. The pain was investigated several times, ECG's and a new procedure that monitors how effectively the heart is working and all came back normal. I do have an ectopic heart beat but was reassured this is normal too. Just over two weeks ago I caught another virus. At the time I was also suffering from extreme stress due to my mother being ill, a friend being diagnosed with cancer, waiting for a scan on my uterus due to prolonged bleeding, work problems, money worries etc. It has been an awful month. The 9 days ago, quite out of the blue, I started experiencing regular palpitations, every few minutes all through the day, like fluttery missed heart beats. I have spoken to my doctor and have been booked in for another ECG and blood tests next week. Although in the week that has followed I feel my anxiety has lowered and I definitely feel more calm, the palpitations have continued. I wear a FitBit and notice my resting heart beat has increased from 74 bpm to 82bpm and each night my heartrate rarely gets down to resting all night. One thing I have noticed though is after a glass of wine every night, my palpitations disappear. I feel calm, relaxed an they totally disappear, only to be there the next morning again. Any help or thoughts would be very gratefully received.

Hi

I can relate to you , I think you will find it just stress, I’ve suffered for years with ectopic beats and fluttering especially when I go to bed or when I wake up in mornings it’s horrible, been tested and a recorder in my chest for a year too...all the consultants say is it’s stress, well I think they are right after all these years....hopefully yours will gradually go away..iam always stressed so guess that why I have then every day 😬

Perhaps get referred to Cardiologist just to get expert opinion , put your mind at rest.

All the best

Sue
