Ectopic heart beats in 30yr old male

Recently diagnosed with ectopics (30yr old Male, active).

The other day I started feeling heart beats in my neck which were very powerful. My heart at rest (around 58-60bpm) would forcefully beat one every so often with a pause and then a very strong heart beat (I can feel them in my throat as well).

I was so concerned I went to A&E and had an ECG done (Of course they didn't show up or happen in those 30 seconds) but the ultrasound they ran did show an ectopic. I could see it on the screen, the heart sort of "fibrillated" and went "bang" (Upper and lower chambers open) and the whole heart opened for a forceful beat.

The doctor said that I shouldn't be worried about these but they seem to be worse today. If I go for a run they dissapear but as soon as I stop they are back.

I am only 30 years old and really don't want to take medication. I tried a propranolol (20mg) but it made absolutely no difference.

I am going to get a second opinion from a cardiologist as I don't understand what's going on.

Hello and welcome to the forum! A friend suffers from ectopic heart beats. These have been all but eliminated by removing alcohol, caffeine, chocolate and spicy foods from his diet. Smoking (really no one should do it) and stress are also bad but stress can be hard to eliminate. Whilst Propranolol was unsuccessful other beta blockers are available and may work for you. Good luck.

Hi there,

Please don't worry about these I know they are very unpleasant , I started at18 years old and still have them now at 65 and the professionals just say dissregaurd them but it's not easy but the main point is they are not dangerous,

I wish you all the best

Good idea to get a Cardio opinion. I hope there’s nothing at all to worry about, but you sound so worried, a professional opinIon you trust should be reassuring.

Thank you for the replies. It’s interesting to hear how common they are. I have been sent a 48 hour monitor. See what happens.
