Struggling to walk and stand

Does anyone struggle with basic standing and walking? I am 2 years since diagnosis - heart back to normal and stable on meds but since May I have been unable to stand up for short periods or walk distances. I am 43 years old and overweight. Before lockdown I was running around a very busy kitchen daily not needing any rest. Dr says to increase my fitness levels - on a treadmill I can walk for a long time because I have something to lean on - in a gym I can lift weights easily if I sit down in-between reps. But standing and walking normally I cannot do. My muscles feel very weak and unstable. My breathing increases rapidly when walking to the stage where my glutes in my back are very painful and I have to sit down. This is really getting me down as I can’t go anywhere at the moment - shopping, day trips out etc... At night my muscles are achy and sore and keep me awake.

Does anyone have any idea of what I might have and how I can fix it?

Thank you

Hi srhmdd2 , are you on a statin ? These are the kind of side effects I had from a statin . I couldn’t sleep at night for the aching legs and arms , and walking became very painful, I was taken off it and the leg and arm pains disappeared And my walking improved within days .

I’m sorry I have no idea. But do you have the go ahead fir exercise? If so, have you tried walking with sticks (Nordic walking)? You will get some assistance from the sticks. You can start very slow. Also I find Pilates has been a very gentle way to build up muscle strength.

I’m sure, you know already......., but less weight always helps!

Contact your medic and report what you're experiencing, and do so with some urgency - your medic needs to know now what is happening as you try to regain fitness. Please update us after you've spoken with the medic(s).

Hi everyone - so walking with Nordic sticks helps to power through the barrier stopping me walking or standing. But I am now in almost constant pain. Turns out it’s lower back pain related and nothing to do with my heart. I have incredible pain in my bottom area, lower back and glutes. I think I might have compressed or slipped a disc. Using co codemol and trying to get a diagnosis. My body was protecting itself / shut down from walking and standing to protect my back. Strange how it kicked in like that for months.
