I had my first ablation ten days ago. You will have a sedative, which keeps you awake during the procedure, though you won't remember anything. I had cryoablation for PVI and heart flutter. A big deficit, in my experience, was the lack of advice for post-procedure care and expectations. They tell you that you can return to normal activity after a couple of days. This is highly optimistic. In my case, I went back into persistent Afib within 48 hours. My symptoms are now much worse, heartbeat raised to 160bpm, breathlessness just sitting in a chair, so yesterday I had a cardioversion. I have yet to be advised on whether my symptoms are normal following ablation, or whether I should be worried and perhaps seek an alternative opinion on my condition. The post-procedure follow-up is distinctly lacking. I know it can take three months for the heart to heal, so I hope my symptoms will eventually subside, but it would be nice to get some reassurance. Hope yours goes better than mine.
