Hi. My mum had a Echocardiogram on the 26th March and we still have not heard anything. How long do the results usually take to come back?

I would only ever get results at a follow appt with my Consultant.

Clinics are running on skeleton staff now so things are taking a lot longer, my appts have been postponed for 4 months.

Try calling the secretary, she may be able to sort a phone call at least.

Sorry Thjs was a follow up appointment as an outpatient after she has been out of hospital from her heart attack. I’ll give them a ring I think to see what’s happening

My first echo was done by the technician and she took about 45mins. It's not unpleasant, a bit of cold gel and then the prob is passed over the chest and back. She may hear a strange whooshing noise, with is your heart. After the test, I asked if it showed anything, but she said she had to do 'measurements' first and then they would write to me. a couple of weeks later, I had a copy of the letter the cardiologist sent to my GP along with an appointment to see the cardiologist. They found my valve problems and a few other things. I went to my GP and she explained the report and we talked about it. Maybe I was lucky, my GP is very good at explaining things. I hope YOur Mum gets on well. X

The only advice I can give is to be very patient, especially at the moment.

However, the consultant's secretary is usually pretty helpful.

When I asked cardiologist this he said that notification is only sent to GP's nowadays if there has been a significant change from previous results. In my case when pushing him on previous results pulmonary hypertension had shown for the two previous years but I had not been told nor had my GP.

I had an echo on 26 March also and I haven't heard yet. Must chase it up!

Thanks all. I rang the hospital this morning and they advised that her results had been sent to her GP on the 16th April!! I then rang the GP and they are looking into it as the receptionist couldn’t see the results but was going to get the DR to check so hopefully we will get a phone call tomorrow with an update.
