Hi all, anyone got a synthetic aortic valve and does it make a sound you can hear all the time? Read some info on them and some people say the click it makes can keep you awake at night. Interested In peoples experience on this. Am I gonna be like the crocodile in Peter Pan after my op ? Tick-Tock 😂

Thanks Sam

Hi Sam,

I have a metalic aortic valve and yes it makes sound!!!! At the beginning it was very hard but after I found some tricks to help me! When I am sleeping mostly I sleep on the right side and I put a part of the duvet in front of my heart and this takes the sound away! It might sounds funny, but it works. I would say that the sound is like a clock. To be honest with you, I listen my heart anytime. Only when I am on crowded places I cannot listen the sound. Even now that I'm watching TV I can listen the clicking. But now the sound is ok for me, is a part of my life already. Don't worry, you will be fine!! 😊😊 If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me about my experience!

I hope I can get used to it as you have. Thanks for the advice ,it is much appreciated. At least if I can hear it working I’ll know everything is fine. As long as I can sleep 😴

Hi,

I had a new generation mechanical aortic valve fitted 2 yrs ago, I was aware of hearing the valve post surgery but as I recovered I became less aware of it. Now I only hear as I go off to sleep and wake up which I find reassuring. My husband only hears it if he puts his head on my chest. I believe that the valves fitted years ago were noisy but the ones being fitted now. So don't worry you won't need a part in the next production of Peter Pan.
