Diet and lifetsyle

Hi folks

I’m interested to hear about lifetsyle changes after a HA. I am 6 weeks now since my HA, I’m able to do rehab physio to a reasonable level having been relatively fit before my HA and I’m 42.

I had thought previously my lifetsyle was ok, eating a home cooked meal from fresh ingredients every night, no fizzy drinks etc. But I didn’t realise how much “bad” stuff I ate until I cut it out... the bacon roll here and there, the garage meal deal, the thick butter on my toast and lots of cheese in my diet. And salt on everything. I also drank too much over usually 4 nights a week.

So, I am in the early stages of change. I’ve cut out a lot of stuff without too much of a problem, I’m eating more fruit and veg through the day, chopped the butter, more or less cut out cheese other than now and again and I had cut out alcohol completely although I did allow myself a couple of glasses of wine last night. Moderation seems to be key, I don’t want to live my life denying myself occasional treats but neither do I want to settle into a pattern that will lead to further problems. Interested to hear how others deal with the change.

Hello Outforawalk. Diet sounds great to me. I love cheese. 😂 Seriously though sounds like you know what to cut out/down and you’re cooking fresh every night. This lockdown is preventing us from eating out so that’s a positive. The salt needs to go. I do miss cheese though and hate low fat spreads so I ration the butter and cheese. Try toast with sugar free jam/marmalade and no butter or spread. St Dalfour make lovely jams.

Thanks Maisie2014, it’s a bit like a being on a “diet” not that I’m prone to faddy diets but I suppose I’m wondering how everyone views their treats. Am I never to have a fish supper again (probably have about 4 a year), or a cake? I make myself sound like a glutton, lol, I’m not but I’m also far from perfect and love my food!

Hi try and reduce the fatty foods and butter etc but also have a varied diet and some treats now and again keep to a sensible weight and stay within the government guide line regarding alcohol let’s be honest we need to enjoy our lives but be sensible in what we eat nothing wrong with a sausage roll or a pork pie now and again the same with fish and chips
